IABO President’s Message

Happy New Year and good riddance to 2020. Let’s hope that 2021 brings everyone health, safety and calmness. I want to thank Tim Hennes for leading the association last year. I hope I can preside over a few more in-person meetings than Tim got to last year.
Along with our first meeting of the New Year we will once again be offering education sessions to the membership. Even though things will be a little different this year due to the pandemic, we will be offering classes on the 2018 IBC Mixed Occupancies/ Special Occupancies taught by George Mann of Kentucky, 2020 National Electrical Code updates taught by Rick Chambers of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and a 2018 IRC Deck construction class taught by our Minnesota neighbor Roger Axel. Seats are still available at the following link.
As president of the association, I want to continue the legacy of those that have served before me to promote and advance building codes and support those responsible to enforce them throughout the State of Iowa.
As we begin the New Year, I encourage you to become involved with the organization. If you haven’t ever served on an IABO committee, maybe now is the time to start. I can tell you that involvement in IABO has provided me with numerous connections throughout the State and it all started by joining an IABO committee.
I want to say thank you to the Board during the last few months. I feel the Board stepped up to keep the membership connected as we have navigated through this pandemic. Who would have thought we would have had more attendees on a Zoom meeting than some of our in-person meetings? If only we could figure out a way to get everyone donuts during these Zoom meetings
The Board is considering some new initiatives to further engage and serve the members such as an enhanced and updated website, social media presence and membership directory software. We will keep the membership informed as we evaluate the use of these new tools.

I look forward to serving as your president.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
