Code Enforcement & Civil Rights: An Argument for Accessibility

The first hour explains the minimum requirements for new or existing construction of accessible commercial buildings and residential facilities for compliance with the IBC and ICC A117.1. It addresses the design, plan review and inspection of residential building and facilities to ensure people with impairments can use the facilities.

The second hour address each of the seven main accessibility requirements from the Iowa Civil Rights Act and the Fair Housing Act for the design and construction of covered multifamily housing (four or more units). The common violations and retrofits will be described.
